I went to Turkey looking for a house and visited several areas. Stayed in Kusadasi and visited Altinkum and Akbuk. Altinkum beach was nice and the main street was ok. But I found Altinkum built up and the housing estates and building was going mad. I prefer quiet places and when we went to Akbuk, knew I had found my kind of place.
Akbuk has not been hit by mass tourism and it is protected from such. The pine and olive trees are protected from being cut down. Buildings are regulated and are not allowed higher than 2.1 floors. ( 2 levels + attic room). The coastline has not been built on and all buildings are on other side of road away from beach. The beach is 6km long and a sheltered bay. Local fishermen go fishing every day here and you can buy fish off them. You can also catch a boat and cruise along the coast. There is a local market every Friday.
While I was property hunting in Akbuk, we stopped and watched the solar eclipse. We went to a local bar located on the seafront and ordered a beer. The eclipse lasted about an hour and a half. Akbuk was not South enough for total darkness but it was still impressive and it did go kind of dark, dusk. The eclipse was 90% here. The temperature was about 24c and sunny, as the eclipse progressed the temp dropped to 10c. We felt cold and it was a strange feeling. The sky did go quite dark and the birds stopped singing. It was very strange. The Turkish bar owners had an eclipse viewer which had a green tinge. I had the eclipse glasses. I took this pic just after eclipse had started through my eclipse glasses with my dig camera, so it is not that clear or good but bettter than nothing. I found the eclipse exciting and worth seeing and will always remember it. An experience worth having. As the eclipse finished I was surprised how quick the temp went up again.
- Pros:Akbuk is quiet, unspoilt, safe, good value, relaxing, calm, scenic
- Cons:Maybe abit quiet in winter,
- In a nutshell:Unspoilt Paradise, Nature, Green, Trees, Calm, Blue Seas
