"Ponce Inlet-Charming But Don't Rush" Ponce Inlet by MA_Bell

Ponce Inlet is a residential community at the south end of Daytona Beach, with a majestic lighthouse [with museum] and marina [with very nice restaurant and a cute little gift shop]. It is picturesque. It is also a bit of a drive to get to. If you go, take your time! Ponce Inlet police heavily patrol and strictly enforce speed limits on the main 4-lane road into town, especially as it turns from 2-lane to 4-lane just where unsuspecting tourists might think the speed may be increased. There is no warning, with stiff fines (compliments of Volusia Co) higher than the amount recommended by State of Florida. Heed this or it will be an expensive visit.

You can take a water taxi from New Smyrna Beach.

If you go to Ponce Inlet, definately budget enough time to visit the Lightouse. It is charming, even majestic, and very well kept. There is a museum and historic buildings on the grounds. For those that climb to the top [whew!], an unparalleled view of the surrounding area awaits. (NOTE: Closed during stormy weather, due to danger from lightning strikes.)

The food is quite good, and portions are generous. The large windows present a wonderful view if the inland-facing waterway. As with any good eatery, be prepared to wait during busy time slots. There is a small wooden ship outside for little ones to play on, and a carved wooden pirate beside it the kids (or you) can pose with for pictures. Sometimes there is live entertainment in the adjacent semi-outside bar area. Also adjacent is a cute gift & souvenir shop which also carries fishing supplies.
