Getting TO/AROUND: Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) Airport (former Roissy) is one of the largest european airports and a hub for Air France (the French national carrier), actually under modernization works; the second airport in Paris is Orly (ORY).

Getting TO/AROUND: The public transportation in Paris is well-developed. A single ticket (bus, metro or tramway) is 1.30 EUR, but you can buy a "carnet of 10" with 10 EUR. If you intend to use more frequently the public transportation buy a "carte orange" (a special photo ticket valid for a week/month, for both bus/metro and for 2 zones which allow you to make an unlimited number of voyages). By example, a "carte orange" for the zones 1-2 is only 14.50 EUR/week.

Getting TO/AROUND: You can find these maps overall in Paris. The maps contain your location point, the metro / bus / tramway networks (including connections), a station index and other useful information.

    Métro: Paris Metro(politain)

  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Subway/Metro
Getting TO/AROUND: The Paris Metro(politain) is the fastest and most convenient transportation system. The Metro opened on 19, July 1900, its first line from Porte de Vincennes to Porte Maillot (line number 1). Fulgence Bienvenue was the engineer in charge of construction, the architect Hector Guimard being responsible for the Art Nouveau entrances (see the photo - Abbesses station designed by Hector Guimard between 1898-1904). The system has over 200 km of track and 16 lines; the line 14 is completely automatized. There are 368 stations (not including RER stations), 87 of these being interchanges between lines. Every building is within 500 metres of a métro station. There are 3500 cars which transport roughly 6 million people per day.

    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: The Eurostar was arguably the most complicated and sophisticated train ever to ride the rails when it was introduced. From the outside, the trainset looks distinctly different from other TGVs, but retains a subtle air of familiarity. Quoted from the TGV Spotter's Guide, some basic specifications:
    Build Dates: 1993-1995
Territory: LGV Nord-Europe and points north
    Top Speed: 300 km/h (186 mph)
    Number in Service: 31
Supply Voltages: 25kV 50Hz AC, 3kV DC, 750V DC third rail (1.5kV DC for some)
Traction:12 3-phase AC asynchronous motors, total power 12200 kW (16300 hp) under 25kV supply
    Length and Weight: 394 m / 752 tonnes
Configuration: 1 power car + 18 trailers + 1 power car, 794 seats (see formations)
    Performance Metrics: 16 kW/tonne / 0.98 tonnes/seat / 15.90 kW/seat
    Pressure Sealed: Yes
Spotting Features: yellow duckbill nose, low profile.
