"Good Friends and Mileage Runs" Portland by cjg1

Portland Oregon to me is many things. My first trip I came for the purpose of flying out. I came through here on the train several times in a circle tour of the country. Connecting from the Empire Builder to the Coast Starlight. These were great trips and very happy times in my life.
Then came the times I’d come here to visit friends from New York, who had moved out. Would come out for four to seven days at a time and just chill.

Most recently now I am using Portland as a mileage run destination. It makes a great place to go on a same day turn. Late flights out. Good routing options elsewhere on the west coast. And with MAX connected to the airport you are only 35 minutes from downtown with trains every 15 or so minutes.

I visited Portland on business this month. Didn't see much of it. Rained a lot. Do you still go on mileage runs? Would have loved to come across the riverside path. What's with all the gardens?

To me, a "mileage run" means to go jogging over a long slow distance. You can't tell me you fly clear to Oregon from New York to go jogging....

Very cool little city with a hip attitude. Nice back drop w/ that mountain. (Mt Hood I think?!?)

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to Portland. I remember my first time in NYC I kept trying to compare it to Portland (the only "big" city i knew) , and my daughter would say, "Mom, it's NOTHING like Portland."

Pretty accurate page according to this Oregonian. Thanks for the visit; come again and stop in Eugene.
