Name of Shop: Markets
We made our way Sunday to the markets in the Rocks. They have a whole lot of everything that speaks tourist. Although some are truly original I felt it was mostly too expensive. The vendors sell a variety of items from food, pet wares, jewlery, beauty and bath products, clothes, souvenirs, books, pictures and housewares. The Rocks Market is a great way to people watch and take it all in. We had fun strolling around, shopping and evenplaying a small game of spot the american.
What To Buy: I bought Liz a nice pearl necklace from one of the jewelry vendors who's shop we were just in. She was eyeing the necklace and I knew she wanted it but wasn't going to get it for herself. Since it was her birthday I wanted to indulge her in whatever she wanted....
What To Pay: The necklace was rather inexpenisve at $125.

Name of Shop: Markets
This is a HUGE flea market type market in the basement of Market City in Chinatown. You can get EVERYTHING you would want to take home to the unlucky. And at a discount. We were able to pick up almost all of our souvenirs here for quite a savings. I have been here several times and admittedly do not always find something I need to have. 2007 was an example of that. It should be noted that the market is only open Thursday through Sunday.

Name of Shop: Woolworths
We were very happy to find the Woolworth’s during our stay. We came across two of them. One in Town Hall Square. The other was easily found just around the corner and a block away from Simpson’s in Potts Point. The one in Potts Point is where we actually did some shopping. With the costs of food and drink in Sydney so high especially with a very weak US dollar, we would stop in here and pick up some snacks. We were also able to find a few products on sale that we do not often find back here. Apricot jam and also some of the Cadbury hot chocolate mix, both of which found a few into our cases.

Name of Shop: Opal Strike
We were in Sydney to celebrate Liz's birthday. Since she is a Libra her birthstone is an Opal....what better place to find an Opal than Australia. Liz had an idea of what she wanted and is very picky about her jewelry. After searching many jewelry stores we came across Opal Strike. The saleswoman was very helpful and showed Liz a variety of Opal rings. After trying on some rings she decided on a white gold ring with an oval shaped black Opal. I felt bad that she picked out her own present and wasn't surprised but she was able to get exactly what she wanted this way.

Name of Shop: The Rocks Visitor's Center
It has become a tradition when Liz and I travel to pick up a Christmas ornament from wherever we happen to be. The Rocks Visitor's Center had some nice Christmas balls that were handpainted with scenes of Sydney. We bought a ball for ourselves and one for each of our Mothers. We even bought my niece the Australian Night Before Christmas Book, which is rather fun take on the tradtional Christmas tale.

Tip, next visit take the ferry to Manly, turn left from Ferry Terminal and walk the foreshore path towards Sydney, spectacular views, you can continue to Harbour Bridge, it will take a day. | ilko4002 Sun Mar 23, 2008 17:46 UTC You still owe me a ticket |
