Getting TO/AROUND: The ferry system here is great. I think by numbers of passengers it is less than Hong Kong but i feel like it is of more use here in Sydney. Wonderful way to see the sites and get out on the water cheap. Go to Watson's Bay for the afternoon and enjoy the experience.

Getting TO/AROUND: The Sydney City Rail system is quite a bonus to the area. When I come and stay with friends I use it every day to get into the city and back. Most other times I use it inside the city limits.

Getting TO/AROUND: This will almost always be your gateway into Sydney.

Not a super airport but it is good for what it does.

Plenty of shopping and can pick up a SIM for your mobile before heading into town. Connects to the trains into the city.

    Monorail: The Monorail.... The Monorail

Getting TO/AROUND: The Monorail was very disappointing. Many complaints to be had and honestly something I'll not do again now that I have finally tried it on my fourth visit to Sydney.

It is a very rough ride. Whomever designed this certainly did not work on the Disney team. It is expensive at $4.50 per person. Cheaper options are available that I suggest like the superpass to mix with the Light Rail. There is no where near enough room on the trains for the people. 8 seats per car is all it has. That is nuts.

The one good thing I can say about the trip is inside the ticketed area you find cheap post cards at 40 cents each. Some are quite nice and we did buy 10 while there.

Getting TO/AROUND: I finally got on the light rail here. I am always happy on a street tram and that is essentially what it is.

As part of the super pass which covers both fare zones on the light rail and also the monorail for $15 each you can ride as much as you want all day long. The free city guides available at the airport and also the visitor centers have a 20% off coupon for this ticket. So you can also save $3 here. The day you do this take the light rail out to the Fish Market and enjoy an excellent lunch. Then continue on out to Lillyfield just to see the scenes. Glebe is also on the line and worth a walk about.

Travel Passes: Travel Pass - Green

Getting TO/AROUND: These travel passes are really quite the bargin. For $41 you can get the green travel pass which is good for seven days from date of purchase or seven days from the next day if you buy it after 3pm. If you're going to be there more three days or more these are a better option than the DayTripper ticket. It allows all ferries except the Manly JetCat and also most all busses except the Sydney and Bondi Explorer busses. The trains are a little more limited but not badly. My personal call for all your transit needs.

Getting TO/AROUND: Although I rode the busses here during my first visit, city busses seem to always be the last of a city's transit system I experience. This trip we took the 380 from Bondi Junction out to the beach and then when we were done with the beach decided to ride it to its end up in Watson's Bay. What a nice ride that is.

Then of course was our extensive use of the 311 as this is the bus that goes through Potts Point. Its run is from Circular Quay down Elizabeth through Hyde Park and over to Woolloomooloo and then through Potts Point and Kings Cross before heading for Central Station again.

Of course our Transit Pass Green covered all fares.

Several of the new limited stops busses are prepay only so be sure you have a ticket if you get on these.

Getting TO/AROUND: We did alot of walking in Sydney. It's a very walkable place and you see so much of the city when on foot. My favorite walk of the trip was from Potts Point into the Botanical Garden and around Circular Quay to the Rocks. It was a fun walk and we made some fun discoveries along the way.

Getting TO/AROUND: We prefered to take ferries when in Sydney. Liz is a bit of the motion sickness type so we didn't want to chance it on a smaller vessel.

Love your photo of the Opera House, so nice to see a different angle! Bears, didn't know these countries had them, I took heaps of photos in Vancouver, had fun hunting the streets to find them!

Hi Chris, Great Sydney page, I lived there for my first 27 years. Tip, next visit take the ferry to Manly, turn left from Ferry Terminal and walk the foreshore path towards Sydney, spectacular views, you can continue to Harbour Bridge, it will take a day.
