Kuala Lumpur once something of a backwater is today a city of around 1.5 million and the place is vibrant,full of frothy energy,and gaining in popularity with visitors. It is emerging from being unfavorably compared with Hong Kong and Singapore as an international shopping center and the cultural infrastructure is being upgraded. Although not yet a fully international city it is nevertheless cosmopolitan and is starting to develop world class facilities. Perhaps one of its greatest attributes concern the dining out possibilities -they are quite stupendous. Besides Malay/Indonesian,, Chinese,Indian and Thai cuisine,visitors are often surprised to find Portuguese,Japanese,British,French,Italian,Spanish,Korean and Vietnamese cuisine is widely available. More recently there has been a US style fast food" invasion" and even Tex Mex restaurants have opened up in Kuala Lumpur.
