"The One and Only Unceded Indian Reserve !" Manitoulin Island by LiindaM

Wikwemikong is also known as Wiky, it's an Unceded indian reserve on the north-eastern on Manitoulin Island, Onatrio, Canada. Unceded means that this land is not to be given up to the government by treatys.
Wikwemikong means " the bay of the beavers" , there are usually Ojibways,Odawas and Potawatomi peoples living here. These are the councils of the three fires. Our Current chief is Hazal. Fox
Wiky has four churches usually in other satelites named...Murryhill, 2 o clock, Buzwah, Kaboni, Maiangowi, South bay, Wabozominissing, Parry Point, Quanja Lake, and Thomas bay.
Wiky was created on 1968, and you can get to Wiky by Manitowaning on highway 6.

Wiky's pow-wow is held on the civic holiday weekend which is also known as the first weekend in August. This festival is known as the Largest and Oldest pow-wow in eastern Canada, the Major pow-wows in North america is a big Competition. This event is attended by all aboriginal dancer representing the Women's and Men's...Traditional, Grass, Fancy and Jingle dancing. Many people from all over the world come here to celebrate this event. People (locals & travellers) from all over the world to come and enjoy this event. This wouldn't happen if it wasn't for the drummers, dancers, spectators,vistors, travellers, craft and food vendors, and our culture.

When you come and join this festival, you could have fun and feel imersed by the spirtual people and the regailias, its a really powerful thing.

Theres alot of good food ... such as Scone dogs, scone, indian tacos, buffalo burgers, short cakes, fries, moose burgers, and other food like uhmmm cheeseburgers, wild rice, and corn soup....so on.

Information Booth - People who work here take tourists on tours in wiky, and other satelites such as Rabbit island, Buzwah, Kaboni, South Bay, Murry Hill, Perry Point, Quanja Lake, and Thomas Bay...so on, they tell the tourists about the history of these satelites in wiky !

Theres also a Youth Center for the youths, A Band office, A Marina, Community Living center, Dental Office, Developement Commision, Family Center, 911 emergeny's, Hub center, Nursing home, Long Term Care, Media relations, Public library, Sewage plant, Tipi company, Trades building, Water plant, Wiky TV 5, and a tree service.

Goods and Services- There is a mini mall which has an I.D.A ( pharmacy) , Another Time another (thrift Store), Restaurant- Paisley's, Coffee Shop- Karens, Career center, First tell communications, wikwemikong developement center this Mall is located on the right side just when you come into Wiky! Other goods and services are Andy's which is the main store in wiky like groceries, tools, and other items, it also has The Source in the store now. On the other side of Andy's is a Gas Bar, Garage, a Laundry mat, and a coffee shop. Other stores known as Lewis's, Hillside, Buzwah Store, Zaawmiknang(craftshop) in buzwah, Bed and breakfast's, Chipstand's,and yeah thats pretty much it.

Recreational Ideas...
Swimming at the beaches in the main bay, South bay, Kings Bay,Thomas Bay, Guanja Lake, and Kaboni. Bingo is usally at the arena.Golfing which is located when your coming into Wiky from Manitowaning. Hockey is at the arena and around the island. Soccer is usually in the summer time in the baseball park where the Pow-wow grounds are. Baseball, Basketball, Running Programs, Volleyball, Badminton, Lacrosse, Handdrum singing, Walkathons, And theres also some Fall-Fairs, Winter Carnivals, Summer Daycamps, for All ages people can join these activities to have fun with Family and friends !
