    You'll find plenty of place to visit in tuscany. A part florence and pisa, you only have to choose: Siena, S.Gimignano, Volterra, Arezzo, Lucca, the islands: giglio, giannutri, elba, capraia really a lot of places! You can travel round the chianti area tasting good wine with delicious food, feel the history and the art in Volterra and San Gimignano. Really hard to decide what to speak about!

    Fondest Memory: not having to decide where to go and what to write!

    the north east was great but now is overbuilt and one of the few places in the world where you can get trapped in a traffic jam at open sea... for grat spirit and people I definitely suggest south and west sardinia!

  • Favorite Thing: Visit sicily, the other big italian island, once (2000 years ago) called "magna grecia" it's filled with ancient greek remains, fantastic scenery and, which is not bad at all, fantastic women :-)
    the part I prefere is the west (and part of the north) coast, less crowded and more natural butthat doesn't mean that eolian island, siracusa, taormina, catania and other places on the east side are not worth a visit

    General Tips: Liguria

  • Favorite Thing: Liguria is know for the riviera, is known as a sea region; right, we've got a lot of sea here, but the land is basically mountains: you can find 2000 m high mountain with wiev on the sea and almost no flat land.....
    the more known places here are from west to east: sanremo, alassio, genova, portofino, cinque terre, while I would suggest, from east to west,
    triora, varigotti, genova, camogli and s. fruttuoso, portofino, sestri levante, cinque terre and portovenere.....
    another peculiar place, if you like countryside, is varese ligure, the first municipality in europe with an iso ambience compliance certificate.

    Fondest Memory: some fantastic regional park, unfortunately those parks are now disappearing!

    href=http://www.parks.it/regione.liguria/index.html
    for a list of the disappearing parks.
    The new regional government is deleting or reducing these regional parks:
    portofino: one of the beauties of the world is ready to become a 'ready to build skyscraper' area
    monte antola: a wild area just behind genoa is no longer protected
    isole e promontori del levante: all the fantastic area from sestri levante to portovenere (including 5 terre) was supposed to be protected. The last news is that only 5 terre (national park) and portovenere will be protected.... anyway, it's a great trek idea is the alta via, you can walk on the mountains from france to tuscany.

    Piedmont is a region of fantastic wines. Visit the hills where barolo, dolcetto and others fantastic wines are produced and don't forget to taste the fantastic food of this area and remember that Alba is the capital of the white truffel.

     Interesting stuff. Personally I would disagree with you about Taormina and poor old Caltagirone didn't get a mention. So much to see, so little time!

     So much fun to read your pages for an "insider's" point of view. Thanks for tips; they are quite helpful. I truly enjoyed Liguria while I was there and hope others go to see the beauty.
