uyuni is a real big nothing in the middle of everything that is becoming a packing facility for tourists wishing to visit the salar, geiser, laguna colorada, laguna verde, train cemetery, arbol de piedra and so on....
none of this can be defined an off the beaten path... well there's no path but there's a lot of people beating it! you can count some 100 vehicles with an average of 6 people each.
In spite of being a tourist packing firm, uyuni is not a tourist oriented town, at least comparing with place like S.Pedro de atacama on the other side of the beauties.
