Entering the Monastery
The monastery, located in the suburbs of Zvenogorod - a town west form Moscow - got its name from Holy Monk Savva Storozhevski who came to the religious house in 1345 and became its hegumen later on.
The entrance gate seems rather low and small but don't forget that you are in front of the functioning monastery, the place is not for official public ceremonies. You can meet monks, hear bells and attend services. For visitors some historical museums are open.
