Levi

Levi is a small holiday village at Levi fell, one of the top finnish ski resorts. Around the main ski slope are clustered the luxury hotels, apres ski bars, shops and holiday chalets for skiers. At the edge of the village there are log cabins for the more traditional winter holiday (see 'Last Christmas' video by Wham). Being more then 100km above the artic circle, Levi has no problem providing the snow - but it is cold! Artic suits or very good ski wear and thermals are needed a lot of the time in Winter. We had about
-20 when we arrived in January which was quite bracing. -40 is certainly possible but we didn't get that cold, fortunately. My manhood spent quite enough time trying to shrink up into my body as it was. Skiing is the main reason to come here but there are plenty of other activities to keep an adventurous man happy. Top ones are:

Snowmobiling - popular here. There are many km's of snowmobile track and the option to rent snow cats or go on safari's with a group. Zipping across a frozen lake in the snow fall = big fun.

Dog Sled - Take out a dog sled with huskies and trail through a pine forest. Yell 'Mush' at them and watch them ignore you.

Reindeer sleigh - This is more for the women and children. A gentle ride in the style of Santa.

SnowShoes - Put on some big clown shoes and hike through the forest. If you mis-step, your leg will vanish down into several feet of snow.

Northern Lights - Hike to the top of a frozen hill and sit there all night. If you see the northern lights, it'll be worth it. If not, it'll be very cold and very upsetting - imagine being slapped around by frosty the Snowman. That's how it feels.

Ice Hotel - Very beautiful, though somewhat uncomfortable hotel. If you like sleeping on a block of ice in an artic suit then it's fine. They do a weekly nightclub disco here too.

Christmas - Lapland is the home of Santa and this would be pretty much the best place in the world to be at Christmas. Mulled berry wine, real reindeer running around and a winter wonderland in constant twilight. Also, the people dress up as elves.
