Naxos is the green island of the Cyclades. It is the biggest and most mountainous.
We spent some 4 nights there June 2003 and had a great time. It felt a little bit less touristy than the other islands we visited although in Hora, the capital, the streets are lined with car-rentals, hotels and restaurants. In June the supplies far outnumbered the demand so there was some real bargains on accommodation and car rentals.
The island is perfect to explore on foot although us frozen Icelanders almost melted in the process.
Those inland villages were a lot less developed than most places we saw in the Cyclades and are wonderful to explore. They might not have any great attractions, simply strolling around and experience the atmosphere.
