For all those who say the resort of San Antonio Bay is only for the very young I'm here to tell you different. Yes it has that label and sure the place comes alive between 10.00pm and 5.00am but by nature that's what a holiday is all about
Some people (like myself) go on holiday to relax and see new things whilst others simply want too party, that's ok I don't mind putting up with a week without sleep I can make it up later.
My holiday always starts with the airport. Up at the crack of dawn (3.00am) washed, brushed and fed by the time the taxi arrived at 3.45. The journey takes about thirty minutes or so and we arrive at the destination slightly before check in opens. As we are taking a flight with Thomas Cook we have plenty choices as to the check in desks, 4 of them we are the first in line and wait patiently for the staff to arrive. Many other travellers join our line mainly younger people travelling as groups to hen parties or stag weekends. We’re not bothered by this as the more folk meander the more comfortable I feel. This is the first step to your summer break and for us it's straight to the duty free lounge to survey the pure excitement you can feel from the moment you’re through from the checking station.
Masses of travellers cheerfully passing the time of day in great expectation of what is to come. The first thing most people look for is twofold; firstly the woman wants’ the duty free shop whilst the husband heads for either the cafe or the bar. As it was 5.00am we settled for the nearest cafe and watched as the travellers meandered past in a seamless line, I dare say there aren’t many gloomy faces in the lounge. We keep our eye on the screen and our flight is there but is subject to delay thankfully only by half an hour on this occasion.
At the gate we sit as near to the front as we can the noise is amazing everyone is buzzing with the thought of a holiday flight, there is something rather special about the outward bound flight that makes people chat about nothing in particular but the atmosphere is brilliant.
As we are called the short walk to the plane the sun is shining this early morning we ascend the front staircase and onto the craft once settled we relax once more as we head for the sunny isle of Ibiza.
After a pleasant flight we arrive tired but excited at the prospect of seeing our hotel, its a short journey by shuttle bus to the airport terminal and to the baggage collection point not much of a wait here the cases are with us, I always find it funny how some of the more garish luggage is the last to be collected from the belt as if the owners were in some way embarrassed to pick it up. We make our way to find our tour representative. The airport at Ibiza is very small as you might expect the island is only 25 miles long by 15 miles across, but you can see the changes are being made for the future and major expansion is on the way. We pass the Thomas Cook girls a couple of times before we realise it and are given the instructions for the next leg of our Ibiza experience by a lovely Welsh girl called Sam, ‘Coach number 145 in that direction pleas for the Mar Amantis’ she said It doesn’t take long to fill our tour bus and by noon we are heading for the motorway in the direction of San Antonio Bay.
We had chosen Ibiza for no other reason than we had not been there before and we’re told its the best. Our hotel for the week would be the Azuline Hotel Mar Amantis situated right on the bay at San Antonio, the hotel is divided in two parts on both sides of the main road through the resort, this is no problem as we are shortly to find out.
Both hotels (I’m assuming they were two individual hotels when they were built) are in good order and are pleasing to the eye of a weary traveller. The reception is bright and cheerful with well organised staff to furnish you with all the paraphernalia you will need for your stay there. As I had opted for the all inclusive deal I had to have a wrist band fitted to show the staff I was not to be charged for the food or drink.
Our room was on the second floor of the Mar Amantis 2 (this being the one we were in) the hotel has two lifts to serve the three floors and 130 rooms, they are light and clean with a balcony and the usual furniture as you might expect from a 3 star establishment. It has a large bathroom with shower and bath, magic. Short time to shower and change before the first inspection of the facilities.
