A warm Welcome

As a family we had always been conservative about our holiday destinations, well it is the one and only time in the year you go on holiday so it should be just right.

We had been in the past to Spain (Mainland) and the Islands in the med but were looking for something 'new'.

I had spoke to others regarding this and the opinion was that Bulgaria had everything we were looking for in a holiday destination.

On arrival to our destination aiport we were a little suprised how backward it seemed but we are glad to say we were mistaken in everyway as the bus drive to Sunny Beach resort proved that the Balkans are as advanced as any country and in some cases are far better.

Our hotel was the 'Sun Palace' situated not far from the main route to the beach a pedestrian street that was full of life both day and night.
the accomedassion was fantastic, the staff well trained and with a good level of communication skills. The rooms well laid out and with great facilities no complaints at all.

We spent a week at sunny beach resort and it should have been two, we traveled to Nessabar a resort 3 miles up the coast the views from the harbour were breathtaking. The old town square looked a picture and you could see the locals accepted you and treat you as a freind not as a tourist.
It was a warm day as I recall and we settled down for a beer at a German bar in a side street of the harbour again no communication problems we chose our snach and beer and it was promply delivered with polite feeling.

Food and Entertainment

The Sun Palace in sunny beach is an all inclusive hotel on the main road oppisite the Diamond and right next to the taxi rank.

We arrived late in the evening so our first views of sunny beach was of the night life around our hotel. This I found was in great abundance everything from pavement cafes to night clubs with all the different kinds of music and live shows not to mention the hotels themseves that offered good wholsome nightly entertainment.

We stroled the walkway through crowds of part goers and families taking the night air both mixed and enjoying their time in sunny beach.

for those who have mobility issues it's all flat there so no problem but should you require assistance with your sightseeing the option of a pedal taxi is always available and cheap.

Our next jaunt was a evening of entertainment Balkan style and what style. a trip to Kahn's tent on the outskirts of sunny beach was brilliand not just the evenings entertainment but the food it was superb. About six courses and all the wine or bear you can drink served as always chilled and when you want it. Entertaining as the night was I can honestly say I had no complaints from my party or the other couples at our table who were staying at the Diamond hotel accros from ours.

The night went on and we were droped off by coach at about 2. 30am in time for a last drink in the room before bed.

The Sun Palace is a great hotel. Well looked after and lots of facilities in and around the pool area. the food is self service and as much as you can eat. typical holiday food like chips, burgers are always available but you can enjoy the Bulgarian food at the same time a mixture of seafood and vegatables of all kinds. The meats are chicken, lamb, pork and goat, very nice.

Summary

We both thought sunny beach and the surounding areas were well worth the four and a half hour flight. Not just the people who were fabulous but the prices and the food are all worth a mention.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Value for money, polite english speeking hotels and bars, Local transport cheap and reliable.
  • Cons:Not many cons just be careful of the Gypsey's outside of your resort. The police look after you within sunny beach but should you stray.
  • In a nutshell:Think of it as Spain in the early seventies.

A pleasure to read your accounts of Sunny Beach. The river you took a trip down on looks like Ropotamo (a Nature reserve) - no Montreal river in Bulgaria :-)
