Traditional Churches | Sunday parisioners at St John the Baptist Church |
We flew to Suceava from Bucharest on Tarom. Met at the Stefan cel Mare airport by the proprietors (thanks Irina) of the B&B (Leaganul Bucovinei) we'd booked over the internet.
We'd come to tour the famous painted monasteries of Bucovina, but had a sunny Sunday to take in the sights of the town itself.
A busride from our accomodation (on the outskirts of town) took us thhrough the suburbs to the centre in less than half an hour. The ton has some attractive old churches - all in use by the faithful on Sunday. |
| | A Fort on a Hill Suceava's name apparently derives from the dacian for 'fort'. A short stroll across a small valley and up the hill reveals Cetacea del Scaun, plus a series of restaurants and a wooden well. |
| Equestrian Statue of Stefan cel Mare |
| | Prince of Moldavia Stefan III was prince of Moldavia in the 15th century. His huge equestrian statue dominates the valley (when viewed from the steps of Maccas) |
