"At the foot of Mt Meru" Arusha by Orchid

We arrived in the lush surroundings of Arusha after a long drive from Nairobi. The Hotel Impala was welcoming and we were lookingh forward to setting off for Kilimanjaro the following day.

It is the looming peak of Meru which brings Arusha both its fertility, and its rainfall, and so the centre of an agricultural district. On one of our free days here we set off to the town centre to see the sights.

These include the fort like whitewashed Boma - now a museum, whose exhibits tell the story of the cruelty of the German settlers who once ruled (and the fact they were crap farmers)

Halfway from Cape to Cairo

At the main roundabout in town we pass the iconic and famous Clock Tower, allegedly halfway between the Cape & Cairo (and between Melbourne and London for good measure)

Tea Truck

Whilst a right hand turn at the clock saw us at the Boma, a turn to the left found us in the busy shopping street (where one of our party was able to secure a new memory card for his camera).

The slopes of Mt Meru are renowned for the quality of the tea grown there, and the town is a prime trading location.
