We arrived in the lush surroundings of Arusha after a long drive from Nairobi. The Hotel Impala was welcoming and we were lookingh forward to setting off for Kilimanjaro the following day.
It is the looming peak of Meru which brings Arusha both its fertility, and its rainfall, and so the centre of an agricultural district. On one of our free days here we set off to the town centre to see the sights.
These include the fort like whitewashed Boma - now a museum, whose exhibits tell the story of the cruelty of the German settlers who once ruled (and the fact they were crap farmers) |
