Gatineau Quebec

Across the Ottawa River, from the city of Ottawa, is the city of Gatineau. An amalgamation of three cities - Hull, Aylmer and Gatineau.

Gatineau Park is situated there

Canadian Museum of Civilization

Just across the river from downtown Ottawa is the Canadian Museum of Civilization, which has some stunning displays that traces the peoples of Canada from 10,000 AD to current times.

The Great Hall has some wonderful totem poles and other First Nations art. The Canada Hall traces the history of the settlement of Canada from the Vikings in 1000 AD to current times.

Winter fun in Gatineau Park

In the winter, cross country ski trails and hiking can be enjoyed in the park. The setting is stunning but you do have to make the effort to get out of your car!

Pros and Cons

Pros:Gatineau Park and the Museum of Civilization are must see places
Cons:Most people never get to and visit Ottawa across the river
In a nutshell:More than meets the eye, if you know where to look
