Port Hardy is a small town on the north-eastern side of Vancouver Island (population around 4,000). Its where Highway 19, that runs up the east coast of the island ends.

The choices to get here from southern BC really are limited to driving or flying from Vancouver. None of the major airlines fly here - Pacific Coastal Airlines do in a 30-seat Saab 300.

Flying time is just over an hour and there are 2 flights a day

Ferry Terminal

The main reason we (and many other people too) went to Port Hardy was to catch the BC Ferries ship "Northern Expedition" to travel through the Inside Passage up to Prince Rupert back on the mainland.
