Prince Rupert

Prince Rupert is the most important centre on the west coast of northern British Columbia. With a population of around 13,000, it is the major air, water and ground transportation hub.

This sunset image was taken around 21:30, just as the ferry was approaching Prince Rupert. The interesting lighting comes through the use of a gradiated filter to tone down the sky a bit.

Seal Cove Seaplane port

You are getting into bushplane country, the transport of choice in the far north. These seaplanes are all variants of the Dehavilland Beaver, one of the best know seaplanes.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Pristine landscape
  • Cons:It rains - a lot. In fact, it is the wettest major centre in Canada
  • In a nutshell:Welcome to the rain!

I was a tour guide at North Pacific (NP) during the summers of 2001/02. Absolutely amazing. I fell in love with the site and Prince Rupert. I highly recommended this area and the North Coast of BC in general. Stunning.

I had to look this place up on the map, as I had never heard of it. Turns out to be very close to Alaska. Fine photos in your tips and travelogues! I thought grizzlies ate people, not grass.
