Return to New York City after a long absence

Most of my recent exposure to New York City has been in some fairly brief stopovers at one of the airports as we were heading off to more exotic locations.

This year, we decided to make up for the recent decades of neglect and are spending 10 days poking around, cameras in hand.

Ground zero

Taken from the 26th floor of a building overlooking Ground Zero, to the untrained eye, it looks like a giant construction sites; which it is.

The twin memorial pools mark where the twin towers once stood.

Famous Buildings

Empire State Building

Just wandering around and you recognize famous buildings all over Manhattan. The Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Guggenheim Museum, the Flatiron Building, and so on.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Just an amazing city to wander around
Cons:Too big for to see in 10 days. My feet still hurt...
In a nutshell:New York is not America...

  Thanks Ann - I think NYC is one of those "world cities" that should be on everyone's list of places to visit. I remember my daughter (who was 15 at the time) felt quite at home there having seen so many of the sights on TV and at the movies.
