Beng Mealea

A daytrip out of Siem Reap (and yes it really does take that long) gets you to a "lost temple", i.e . one that is off the beaten path and has not been cleared of the jungle.

Beng Mealea is a scaled down, unsantized version of Angkor Wat.

Well worth the visit.

Kbal Spean

About 1-1/2 hour drive from Siem Reap, and a two km uphill hike gets you to this pretty little site.

BEWARE: It is not a trivial jaunt to get here. Lots of hard work, slippery conditions and an area that has not been cleared of land mines.

Landmine Museum

Speaking of landmines. A trip to one man's work on mine clearing and mine awareness.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Amazing place to visit
  • Cons:High temperatures, malarial zone and it takes some effort to see the places
  • In a nutshell:Well worth the effort to get out of town and see places other than Ankgor Wat.
