Travel The World

by StumpTim - last update: Sep 29, 2009

Just get on a plane and go!

at the Turks and Cacios
I've grown up in the US and have lived all over the country. A Southerner all the way, we reside in Charlotte, NC and love it.

As empty nesters, we enjoy short trips to see the kids at college or friends for long weekends.

We also have always enjoyed the longer trips in the summers with the kids, or the Asian business trips I take regularly.

There's no better place than the US - our cities, our vast West, and the beaches of the Carolinas.

As North Carolinians, we are basketball fans - ACC conference is awesome and you will note a reference to UNC-Chapel Hill as the mecca for college hoops (see pages below).

While we love to travel, we love being home in Charlotte where we are active in our church (Myers Park Presbyterian Church, PCUSA), and have lots of friends and family to hang out with. Weekends are always fun filled times with golf, dinner dates with friends, sitting by the outdoor fireplace, and relaxing.

Europe

We go to Europe most summers, and have enjoyed renting houses in Greece, Italy and France. Lots of culture and we find the people to usually be so accomodating and welcoming - its the tourists you have to be carefully with.

We tend to rent a house in one place for a week and work from there with day trips. There are plenty of nice places for rent, at about the same cost as 2 hotel rooms, and we like having the living spaces to relax and the kitchen to cook and nibble.

We went to France earlier this summer, mostly in Normandy and the Cote D'azur.

In Italy we like Tuscany and the Amalfi coast - we want to go to the lake district.

and in Greece we liked Santorini - need to go back and explore some more places.

It is my hope that we will live in London or Paris or Florence for a year, once I retire.
Gillam Bay on Green Turtle Cay

The Islands

Its so easy to go to the Bahamas or Turks or BVIs from Charlotte. We have 23 nonstops flights to island destinations, so we make this trip as often as possible. The quieter the better. Bonefishing is far more fun than the deepsea variety.

consider the Turks for family relaxing

and the Abacos, Bahamas for fishing and boating
Tim taking a morning hike in Hong Kong

Asia

if 1900s is the century for the USA, then the 2000s is the time for China - just go and see it- it is large and wonderful - the food and people are awesome, and the history and scenery are terrific. And the business is strong - these folks now how to make money. The is just no place like Hong Kong

I love the food and the people - and these folks are really great capitalists

Travel with the Kids

we think its fun to travel with the kids and keep the family together as long as possible - while they are now about grown, a nice trip to Europe can serve as a nice bribe to hang out with the parents

Stuart is 21 and a 3rd year student at UVA
Bo is 19 and a freshman at UNC

2 great college towns - we'll travel anytime to Charlottesville or Chapel Hill
low country beaches

US Travel

we love going all over the US - the great National Park system, the Rocky Mountains, Hawaii, the California coast, the Carolina beaches, the great cities - just so many fun things to do - and its right here!

In North Carolina, we have:
Pinehurst
The Outer Banks
Blue Ridge Parkway
Asheville's Biltmore House
Grandfather Mountain
Blowing Rock
Lexington BBQ

come on down and see us!

Tim, Would love to have some of that Southern cooking now, especially since my son and I have been doing the South Beach diet for the last 10 days. A Krispy Kreme donut sounds really marvelous.
