"Ifrane" Province d' Ifrane by JessieLang

Province d' Ifrane Travel Guide: 31 reviews and 52 photos

Ifrane was a French town, but it looks like a Swiss village. The French generals lived here in the 1930s. It is a resort area now, and one of the most expensive villages in Morocco. The King has a palace here (he skis) but it isn’t Moroccan style—It looks like a castle.

Akhawayn, the first private university in Morocco, is located in Ifrane. Classes are taught in English, and it has 200 students. Their first MBAs graduated 3 or 4 years ago.

There is a large clay lion in a corner of the park. (There used to be lions here, but they are long gone. The French took the last one in 1940.)

There are still leopards in some areas in the mountains, along with deer, boar, foxes and Barbary apes. We got lucky when we passed through the forest where the apes live—they came out of the trees and ran across the road.
