Through the fjord

Our first view of Iceland was rugged cliffs, and then we sailed up a lovely fjord until we reached the small village of Seydisfjordur (pop.700) on the east coast. It is isolated, and surrounded by mountains.

This was our most northern port, but not the coldest. Sunset and sunrise are only a few hours apart this far north in the summer, and even the few hours of night weren’t really dark. In the winter, it is reversed—only 4 hours of daylight.
