Restaurant Name: Cafe AQ
Great cafe in a 140-year-old traditional building, one of the oldest in Saigon. Coffee beans are roasted in a traditional Vietnamese fashion in a clay oven. Very cool space, great young crowd.

Restaurant Name: Quan An Ngon
One of the hippest restaurants in HCMC, a fairly traditional building surrounded by a kitchen (yes, surrounded). Feels like you're eating in a market, you can go around and watch the scores of chefs cooking. Not tourist-friendly except for the english translations on the menu. Brilliant.

Restaurant Name: Com Nieu Saigon
Off-the-chart amazing food, your mouth will be electrified for hours. To a Westerner it's a dive. Go for the food. Not tourist-friendly. Order the crispy rice (com nieu, the restarurant's namesake). Cooked in a clay pot, they shatter the pot, fling the rice past the faces of suprised diners into the capable hands of your waiter. Sure it's a gimmick, but it's cool and tastes great. Again, not tourist-friendly, go with a local.
