Goodbye 25 & welcome 27! ! !

The European Union has recently welcomed 10 more members, from central& east Europe pluss the island countries of Malta and Cyprus! Bulgaria and Romania are soon to follow.
Finally the E. U. turns to a really European institution, where I hope some democratic criteria apply... Travelling, studying and even working in/ between these 25 countries will becomer easier ...
No reason to worry that diversity will disappear from our continent, we will probably move from national to more regional identities...

This year I intend to travel more in Eastern Europe, rediscover its beauties and get to know its people better...

My home: Greece

The view from my window in Katerini, Greece...

The history of my country is in so many ways connected to that of the rest of Europe and our future as the only southeastern country in the European Union is bound to Europe. I don't think I will ever feel as a citizen of Europe, though, at least not before the European Union develops reliable democratic institutions...

So many wonders and so many evils stem from this continent that I have very mixed feelings about my European identity...

Wow! You can see little planes over Serbia and Montenegro on that photo! (satelite photo was taken on May 14th 1999.) ;o))))
