cool city

Gdansk
a city of 800,000 inhabitants, located in the north of Poland by the Baltic Sea.
How to get there :
By plane from London it takes approximate 2 hours.
The name of the airport is: Rebiechowo, Lech Walesa Airport (GDN) - named after Polish first democratic elected president who still lives in the city (at Polna Street in Oliwa district)
You can get a taxi from the airport to the city centre it will take approximate 20min,it will cost max 15 Uk pounds.
Things to see in gdansk:
in old town: Dluga Street and Dlugi targ,
old town hall,
cathedral church( the biggest brick one in the world),
arsenal,
promenade by the Motlawa River,
old crane,
O hotel(the most exclusive one in gdansk5*)
piwna street with plenty of beer gardens, (worth to mention -"piwna" means beer).
The old town architecture is a fusion of many styles with the Dutch one in majority - it's worth to take a look at buildings' drain system where each pipe is ending with significant shape called "zygacze" (literally translated as vomiters).

Dos:
get a 24hrs ticket for all public transport if you planning to visit Sopot and Gdynia (two other cities that together with gdansk make a metropolis called threecity) ticket price 17PLN - around £3,50 while single ticket is about 3,40 PLN - around £0,80.
worth to know that train are running 24/7 though the less frequent at night time - about once per hour.
Trip from gdansk to sopot takes appr 20min.
Tickets are available at main stations but you can get it also at the street kiosks or from a bus/tram/ driver though the last ones are more expensive.

Try local beer and food. Prices of beer vary depends on brand and promotion. The prices start from 5PLN up to 9PLN but expect to pay more for imported ones like Guinness in an Irish Pub will cost you around 12PLN. Some local must-try beers are: Amber and Kasztelan but there are some other famous beer brands from other regions like Tyskie, Zywiec, Lech.
Stiff drinks: vodka zoladkowa gorzka (original, mint, honey and many other flavours) zubrowka vodka,

Polish traditional dishes: pierogi ( dumplings stuffed with cabbage, cheese, meat, fruits), kopytka( gnocchi style ) delicious sausages and ham, traditional Polish bread is also worth to try.
Soups: such as
pomidorowa (tomato soup)
Barszcz (typical Polish broth that can go with potato or beetroot)
A day trip to sopot is a must. It is a small town located by the very sea coast with the longest wooden pier in Europe. Be aware that if you want to enjoy a nice view from the top of this pier you will need to buy a ticket (5,50PLN. -you can get it from office located next to pier entrance). At the end of the pier there is a cafe and there is also a restaurant on a ship moored at the pier. You can also take a boat-tram to Gdynia or Gdansk from there.
There are many pubs and restaurants at Monte Casino Street which is the main and most popular in Sopot. All of them with interesting and sometimes freaky decor. Worth to know that in many places there is a wi-fi available.
Walking down the street, on a left hand side you can see a Krzywy Domek
(Bent House) that looks like it was taken from Barcelona - if you want to enjoy the view you can have a drink in Blekitny Pudel Pub
