My visit to Chicago was given a certain frisson of excitement by the fact that my trips into the downtown area took me past a branch of the company I work for not too far from where I was staying out in Des Plaines. As I didn't want them to know I was there (long story - must tell you later!) this meant that each excursion involved a furtive dash past the office lest anyone recognise me, or an equally fraught detour through the burbs on a wing and a prayer that one could find the freeway into town and not find oneself on a "Highway to Heaven" as Michael Llandon might have said! Having said all that, I loved this place. Even the atrocious manners of the shop assistants and sales clerks was hilarious! (Or maybe I was on something at the time ... but that's <i>another</i> story!) Anyway, I'm sticking all my info and impressions into a travelogue as I really can't break down my experiences here into "Must Sees" and "Off The Beaten Tracks" etc.
