Denver (Just Passing Through)

Who *is* Reilly anyway? I sure don't have his life

Denver Sunset
Well, Denver is history (for me anyway). The trip outta there was okay at best. Said 'goodbye' to a few Friends, (cleaned my heart out of the rental unit) and went to the airport to leave. No biggie, really. I'll go back someday to visit, but it'll never be the same.

As for the many years I spent living (as opposed to dying) in Denver, I knew more ways to get to a single place, within 50 miles (maybe more) than almost anyone else there. I knew ways to get from Castle Rock to Boulder without ever rotating tires on a highway. Yes, it may have been the 'scenic route', but, ya got where ya needed to go. (My instructions would make a Cabbie weep). Who else could give you instructions to 2010 Wewatta Street, from Auraria with only 2 (count 'em, 2) turns, WITH parking?

I know of places in Denver that would curl your toes, wrinkle your nose, or present you a rose all in a single afternoon (with cocktails about 5-ish). Seems that the "native" Denverites don't know bupkus about the 'tunnels', the underground 'potties', or the "Dancing Waters" in City Park on sultry summer evenings. Inner-tubing lazily down the Highline Canal, passing through 3 Counties, on an afternoon, with nothing else to do (or really care about). Getting your wits scared out of you by simply visiting High School Chum Paris Bradley's house (he was a "Chum" for about a year - I didn't wish to be a 16 year old Cardiac victim).

Many, many more tid-bits to impart, I'll re-do these pages as the fog clears. For now, I'm reliving my memories, and damn, there are so many! Who said "Parting is such sweet sorrow"?

They never lived in Denver.

Rita in Her Element

People, Places and Things

For several years, Elodie Caroline had a rather vicarious relationship with my Friend Rita at the little market down from my house. Ellie would say "hullo" to Rita, and, in turn, Rita would say "hello" to Ellie (vis-a-vie, ME).

Well, Ellie, here's a picture of Rita. This is who you've been saying "hullo" to for all these years. She was secretly wrecked when I said a final "goodbye", but she has the URL to the page, and promises to leave notes as time allows.

The Last "Huzzah"

This is very "Godot-ian", but it'll be my last memory of Denver, as a Resident. After Rash and I hauled about six tons of 'memoribilia' from the rental unit, this is all that's left before our departure. I swear to God, if someone were moving out of Beverly Hills, CA, and put stuff at the dumpsters, flocks, nay, MOBS of Folks would come to see the 'booty' (and what they could scavenge from it).

'Round about day two, we thought it rather novel to 'display' our disenfranchised items, sort of like a display in a posh-ish department store. Items askew, highlighted, begging for attention from passersby. It worked! We had a "brass N' glass" display, an "Into the 21st Century Telecommunications" display (Rash, YOU explain *that* one), a "Campers Delight" display, among other diversions to the move. I thought it hysterical, but, everything we poked in the "Public Eye" got taken.

I explained to a Lady passing by that it was a "Seinfeldian Yard Sale". "Everything is nothing, just take it home". I even provided 'drive-up' service with an unusually icky lamp to an observer from her car.

Ahhh... the 'Human Condition' is in need of a re-vamp. But not by me.

Just thought I would see how your pages are - just as I thought - hilarious. Picked Denver because my daughter is there now (Broomfield). I may go in Dec.
