  • Well, as far as I can figure, none. But, at one point it was quite the place to be seen on the Island. Quite fashionable in it's time, but from what I found, it was vacant.

Unique Qualities: Views of the Great Sound and Gibb's Hill Lighthouse.

  • Well, this was gone way before I lived on the Island, but I was asked about it by VT'er Simoneddy. I did manage to find this opening ad for the hotel from the mid-1930's, and, if you can read the copy, it's also a 'place to be seen'.

Unique Qualities: Beautiful Hotel for it's time, but it's been razed and newer condominiums have replaced it.

Directions: It was across the Hamilton Harbour to the South East, on a rather sloping hill. I can imagine the views of the ships entering the Harbour, and the festivities happening in Hamilton, made it a primo spot.

  • Well, rather empty. The building is absolutely HUGE, with the enclosed pool further down on the lawn (which was a rather steep incline toward Ft. St. Catherine at the bottom - so to speak). It faced the airport, and gave incoming Bermuda Tourists quite an eyefull of T&A on landing. (Government didn't like that).

Unique Qualities: For many years, other hotels made offers on the property, but it was WAAAAY too big. So, they sold off the contents at auction (ick, would YOU want a bed from there? - They were cheap. Believe me).

At this point, I think some developers bought the property, razed the building (and pool) and it's now a (somewhat) planned housing community. I FOUND THE PIC! (Knock *me* down with a feather). The pool is on the right.

Interesting reading about Bermuda. When the Tall Ships came into Brisbane, Australia, 1000's of people, including me, went to see them, what a sight!
