28 hours later, we're in Milford (New Haven). The move was entirely done with a Garmin NuVI 260. No maps at all, through states I've never been in. With the exception of hurtling through downtown Chicago, a brush with Gary, Indiana, and that damned bridge outside of Manhattan, we made it. Here's the rundown:
States most likely to not be noticed if missing: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, parts of Ohio
Best rest stops: Ohio
Prettiest western edge: Pennsylvania
Most confusing states to go through (because of the sheer number of times you have to cross their borders): Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York
All-in-all, the trip was fairly cool (I wouldn't do it again for love nor money - albeit, this time, I did it for both). |
| | The 'trip' (Blow-by-blow) 5/27 13:50 hours: We leave Rochester, Minnesota (stopping at Culver's for a bite before we escape). 5/27 15:20 hours: We're outta Minnesota, and in Wisconsin. LaCrosse to be sure. We need to pee. 5/27 16:00 hours: We pass through Mauston, Wisconsin. Gittin' a bit tired. But WAIT! We see picturesque Nodine, Indiana Late (I have no idea what time, as time is irrelevant) we blast through Chicago, Illinois, proceed to Gary, Indiana. Stopped for the night In Portage, Indiana (where we promptly got lost on a highway cloverleaf). I think we paid the toll-booth operator twice. Once in, once out, then to a motel. (I've had cheaper dates). 5/28 10:00 hours: Hurtling down I-90, we enter Ravenna, Ohio. GREAT BATHROOMS! What a splendid change! (They even smelled nice). 5/28 14:00 hours: Breathtaking Brady's Leap, Ohio. Magnificent, to say the least. And *that's* saying a lot. 5/28 16:00 hours: Clarion, Pennsylvania. "Hicks-ville" US, where I changed a fuse in the car (and promptly saved the day - shut up, R!) 5/29 08:00 hours: Got totally lost on yet another freeway cloverleaf (bad, this time). The on-ramp was lost in a tall hedge, of sorts. Mrs. Garmin was getting *rather* pissed off at us. She had a 'hateful tone' in her voice whenever "recalculating". We made it out okay. 5/29 15:00 hours: The *dreaded* Tappan-Zee bridge. (But that's another story). Then we were here. Beyouteeful, Milford, Connecticut. |
And So It Goes I personally would like to thank: StacyH (for kicking me in the @ss continuously - would you like a staple with that?) The 'elusive' "R". The love of my life. (Ya ain't gittin' away easily). CatherineCG - I still cannot believe the "Care Package"! The BESTEST, absolutely. Rocky (Taffeta, stairs and heels don't mix) <--- ditto Homanded. |
