"Sydney - something for absolutely everyone!" Sydney by lindyz

These 2 things would have to undoubtedly be the most photographed Sydney icons of all time, and yes, of course I have found many pics of mine also! A very relaxing and pleasurable day can be had just wandering around this area. Frank and I have many times just driven up to Sydney, parked the car, walked across the bridge, caught the ferry to Manly, had lunch, caught the ferry back and then driven home again - a magical day!
Sydney is only about a one hours drive from Wollongong, so it is well within reach of a nice day out. However, it is way too hectic and chaotic for me to ever want to live there!! I am very happy just visiting for a day, or even a weekend.
Just some facts and figures for you to marvel at!
The Sydney Opera House is the most recognised Australian image by far. It is built on Bennelong Point in the centre of Sydney, with magnificent roofs imitating a ship at full sail.
The Opera House was designed by renowned Danish Architect, Jorn Uzton (1918-2008) and built at a cost of AUD$102,000,000. It has over 1000 rooms and holds over 3000 events each and every year, so it is indeed a well utilised building, not only an iconic landmark. In 2005 it was included in the National Heritage List.
You can just wander around the outside of the Opera House for great photos or you can have a tour through the inside. Either way, it makes for an interesting Sydney outing, and one that no visitor to Sydney should leave without seeing.
Here are just some brief statistics for you.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a Steel Arch Bridge and it is the world's widest long-span bridge.
Planning for the bridge started in 1912 and construction began in 1923. The Bridge was finally opened on 19th March, 1932. Until 1967 it was Sydney's tallest structure. It is 2.4 kilometres/1.5 miles long.
Today it carries 6 lanes of traffic, plus train lines and walking lanes. There is also now a tunnel for traffic going underwater from one side of the bridge to the other.
I believe no visit to Sydney should be complete without a visit to the Bridge. Anyone can walk across it for free, but the ultimate thing for many people is to climb to the top, known as Bridgeclimb. For a fee of course, you can put on your lovely grey suit and climb right to the top of the bridge. This is extremely popular thing to do, Frank has done it, but not me as Im a little bit afraid of heights! Every day these climbs take place, and on weekends you will see constant groups of people on the bridge, up to 10 groups at a time. What a lucrative business that was to start up. The panoramic views of Sydney to behold at the top are unforgettable, so I am told!
Bridgeclimb is celebrating its 10th year, with over 2 million climbers to date - amazing! You can climb the bridge either at dawn, daytime, twilight or at night time.

The Lincoln Lounge is located on the eastern side of Kings Cross Station on York Way. Judging from the exterior, the pub used to be called the Lincoln Arms. King Cross Sydney : australiavoyage.net/kings-cr...
