Kentucky Horse Farm
In 1752, Shawnee Indians captured a Pennsylvania woodsman and adventurer named John Finley on the Ohio river and took him to the land they called "Can-tuc-kee." Finley escaped and when he returned described the land as filled with strawberries so high a horse would stain its knees with juice walking through them, grapevines a foot thick, of pigeons roosting in trees by the thousands, of deer, elk, and buffalo by the thousands crowded around salt licks. Finley?s tales were retold in Western Virginia and settlers such as Daniel Boone led early settlers through the Cumberland gap on what became known as the "Wilderness Road." Finley may have exaggerated, but Kentucky is a beautiful State, especially in the early warm days of April through May when the dogwoods and redbud trees are blooming, the young colts are running in the manicured Bluegrass, farms surrounding Lexington, and all seems right with the world.

Hi Brent, We have enjoyed reading your Kentucky Pages. Thanks for sharing them. It's great to see that someone else like to seek out the off-the beaten-path places in our corner of the world, and not just the big cities. Stephen and Karen

Fantastic tour. I am going to have to stray from my path from Louisville to Florence and see more sights.
