"My first Volcano experience" Taal by kemisteryoso

I never been to a volcano before and this one is my first experience. Together with my colleague, we decided to hike this so called smallest volcano in the Philippines. We traveled 2 hours to the town of San Nicolas, Batangas where we stayed for 1 night. Then early next morning at 6 30 Am we sailed to the volcano island in the middle of Taal Lake coming from the river that connects the lake to the South china sea. I thought the lake is land locked but it isn't. The travel took 45 minutes but they said there are some areas in which the travel time is 30 minutes or less but not known to tourist though.
I forgot the wavy ride because the sunrise at the back of Mt. Makulot caught my attention. The lake became more calm as we approached the island and there are plenty of fish pen where they raise the famous "Batangas Tilapia"
We docked at Purok Alas-as, one among the 4 villages of Pulo or the volcano island itself. We went to a house owned by Mr Joey Aquino where we left our things and our lunch and waited for our guide who will accompany us to the crater.s
We are told not to point, shout or say harsh words while on the island because they said the volcano island is mystic. They narrated stories about tourist being lost for a couple of days before finding their right way. It sort of a punishment they narrated and hearing that, I hardly spoke especially when we started hiking.
The hike wasn't bad at all and it's easy for me because the ascend was gradual and my only struggle is the volcanic ash that you can't avoid once you stepped on it, it will be part of your face for sure. I covered my face to lessen its cruelty.
Like those who are coming from Talisay and Tagaytay we also have a great view of the crater as we reached the brink of the volcano but our only edge is that we can go down to the crater touch its water and swim on it. This is the main reason why we chose the San Nicolas route.
Going down the crater is more dangerous because of the steep descent and climbing back is another thing but once you are there, it changes everything. I forgot the ordeal I had been. It's a great adventure.
The hike lasted for 1 and a half hours. It's a unforgettable experience and a whole new adventure I won't forget.
It is an active volcano in the Philippines located in the town of Talisay and San Nicolas of Batangas province within Lake Taal. It about 50 km from Manila.
The whole island is said to be dangerous because eruption can occur everywhere in the island.
It is one among the 16 Decade Volcanoes of the world identified by the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior.
It last erupted in1977.
