"Hang Loose," is a term that is widely used among locals living in the Hawaiian Islands which really does describe the laid back additude of most residents there. It seems to be a paradise where many worries and cares are left behind and replaced with fragrant leis, friendly smiles and some of the most beautiful scenery imanginable.
The Big Island of Hawaii. It is one of the eight in the chain of islands and is named Hawaii. It is as said, "Big" with many things to see and enjoy and for this reason Hawaii stole my heart long ago.
It was november of 1990 that I first visited The Big Island in order to help a good friend work on his mothers home. Being that he was born and raised there made it possible to enjoy firsthand the locals way of life. I enjoyed fishing for mahi mahi, hunting wild boar, hanging out with friends at the local rodeo, attending three Hawaiian Style wedding and eating a whole lot of great food!!! I learned through this experience just how diverse this Island is. Many races and cultures have come together here to make one wonderful "people of Hawaii." It is really the "Hang Loose" atmosphere that I am talking aboout. A place where people leave thier keys in the car, house windows open and usually wave with the Hang Loose sign opposed to the one finger out the window style that I am accustomed seeing here all to often in Los Angeles. This is my paradise!!! A laid back relaxed place that I very much see myself and wife living in. Now I just have to get her on the boat, hehehe!!!
Here are some words to remember when you visit Hawaii:

I see you have signed up for the VT meetings in Paris in September, so I look forward to meeting you there.
Nice introduction, gorgeous photo! Great restaurant tips too! Funny, you mention going to Walmart to get supplies and we did the exact same thing when we were in Kona in 2000! LOL! Souvenirs were less expensive there too!
A man after my own heart, Greg... concentrating on the restaurant tips. Excellent job, sir - I'd love to try 'em all out. BTW, your name reminds me of one of my favorite movies ever. Long live the Hanson Brothers.
Hi Greg. Lived in Lahaina on Maui for five years. See you had a great time in Kona, home of the Kona Gold, - no not the coffee! Cheers.....Erik
Love the lava pictures from 1990!
Aloha, Greg, great tips on the Big Island. I, now and then, have a Pipeline Porter, it's the coffee I'm after. lol You drove me pulule on the Malasadas. Now, I'll have to go to L & L Hawaiian Barbecue for some small ones.
HI Greg - magic shots here - of the frangipani and the beach with palm trees. Looks like a place Id like to "chillax" at!!! Lovin the "safety shoes" too (oh and the hairdo and mo hahaha!)
