Four single travellers meet by accident in Savonlinna and spent a great time together near Sulkava! That is in short what happened. In Lappeenranta I met Kaoru (from Japan) and Elisabeth (from Austria). We decided to take the train together the next day and ended up in Savonlinna, there, Valerie (from Switzerland) asked us if we knew any place to stay. She joined us in our hunt for a sleeping place.

All four of us were on a budget and we wanted to stay somewhere affordable. I looked up the nearest youthhostel, and it happened to mention one in Sulkava.

We took a bus to Sulkava and from there the Hostel owner had arranged for us a taxi to bring us to her place. The owner of this hostel loves to talk and speaks so many languages, you'll always find a way to talk to her.
She has an amazing place out in the country. On a smaller lake she has a few cottages. Our plan was just to spent a night, but after one night we just could not leave, we all fell in love with the place. Elisabeth had to leave because she was going to study in Oulu, and had to go on. But the rest stayed behind a few more days...

What a great experience this place is. Never heard of it, but I sure want to go. It sounds very adventurous too: chopping the wood to get yourself warm and no shower. Thanks for the nice write-up!
