  • At Koh Chang we spent our days in a very basic, simple cottage. The place is called Jungle Huts, and it is just after Lonely Beach. If you get dropped off there it will be walkable.
This place has no luxery at all, so don't go there if you need anything more than a matras, mosquito-net and blanket in your hut. I was there in October [high season didn't start yet] and there was nobody but me and my partner. It was so relaxing!

When we walked up to the road we had our breakfast place right there along the street and on the opposite of the street we ate our dinner on evenings on which we didn't barbecue.

Unique Qualities: I don't know what the owners are like, since they had their parents (a lovely old couple) still look after the place. But that couple was very sweet, and they let us borrow a canoe to get around on the water each day. The place does not have a sand beach. You'll have to walk a little bit to get to the Lonely Beach for that, but I think that was the charm, because that makes it such a nice and quiet place to stay.

  • In 2004 we stayed in Jungle Huts again, and just like the first time we were the only ones there when we arrived. This time two single travellers stayed also for a few days at these huts. This time it was not so far out of season, so a little sad to see these huts so empty. The people who are the owners now seem to be more commercial, they want more money, but take less care of the property, a bad development.

We still made it a great stay, but almost decided to find another place to stay.

%fc%cvLong Beach (LB) Resort: Quiet Beach
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • On our last visit to Koh Chang we took a motorbikeride to the 'other' side of the island, where it is more quiet and where you can find some more secluded resorts. Most of them looked upscale, but we found one budget resort, it was just build recently and it is owned by a very young couple. The man's name is Joe, he and his wife do everything themselves, including the cooking.

I took lots of pictures of the place, so if you would like more information with pictures send me a mail, and I will forward them to you.

Unique Qualities: The beach is almost like a private beach with a view on some of the other islands around. The place has hammocks and a swing tied on the coconuttrees to relax in, and to watch the sunset.
The price is budget, only 150 baht per bungalow, and less in low season.

Directions: You can take the ferry (from Trat, LaemNgob) to Koh Wai and get off on the most southern tip of Koh Chang (Tantawan), it is walking distance from Long Beach then. You can also take the Koh Chang ferry and call Joe to come and pick you up.

Ko Chang is such a lovely island ! I enjoyed my stay there. We stayed in similar huts at the beach. I have still a coconut from Ko Chang at home.
