Koh Chang is my first introduction to the Thai Islands. It is very laid-back and life is easy here. So far the only other island I checked out is Koh Samet, a big dissapointment. First there was a 400 baht entrance fee because of the "national park" you entered, and then there were these overcrowded beaches and no peace and quietness. We left that island after I had asked for our 400 baht back.
So for the second time I spent a week on Koh Chang in 2004. This time it was less quiet, this island too is changing into a major tourist destinaltion, and it is losing it's charm. We went back to the same Jungle Huts accomodation, there were different owners now. On the other side of the island we saw an idyllic spot to stay, but we were about to leave. Maybe next time...although I feel we should go in search of more secluded island, maybe it is becoming slowly instinct in Thailand. |
