GREAT LOCATION -- BALLY'SWhile I've not stayed at Bally's I know the casino and friends have stayed there. In fact I just talked with someone who was recently there (2006) Bally's Savings ! Like most LV properties, the prices vary tremendously depending on demand. Check their website where prices have ranged from $59 to $209!
Unique Qualities: It is the Old MGM but remodelled and in the Center of the South Strip. Across from Bellagio, next to Paris, near Flamingo Hilton and Ceasar's Palace. A good location!!

The Tropicana

This was a cute but gawdy little casino with a hotel at the back. Formerly a Holida Inn, it offered a good rate. I've stayed there for as low as $39 in a nice clean room in walking distance of all of the great casinos! It was closed and is becoming part of a project for MGM. The 18 million-square-foot first phase of the project calls for a 4,000-room hotel and casino, three 400-room boutique hotels to be operated by internationally recognized companies not currently in Las Vegas, 1,650 luxury condominium-hotel units and 550,000 square feet of retail, dining and entertainment space.
Unique Qualities: Yes the casino looked cheesy but was LOW COST and CLEAN

Recent reports from my family say the Flamingo is getting a bit worn. Also it does have one of the smaller casinos on the strip.
Unique Qualities: stay in tradition -- the first lodging property on the strip (don't worry the old motel was torn down many years ago and the current Flamingo is a true resort)

This was the second place I ever stayed in Las Vegas. I'd stay here again but usually I can get a little lower rate at another property While it is harder to get a great rate here you can get $99 on some dates! One of my top three places to stay -- Tropical Luxury!!
Unique Qualities: Wonderful lobby and wonderful lobby bar - your are in a jungle!

Fact: most real gamblers like to play at the small intimate casinos. And Bills Gambling Hall is a great one -- well located and a great old themed atmosphere. Formerly called Barbary Coast This is one of the places I've really enjoyed my gambling.
