| A musical pig - they are not too common.... :-) |
Welcome, and thank you for visiting my page.
Many people here on the VT compare their passion for travelling with an addiction. Well, in a way I have to agree to that. Now, when life has turned out in a way that I can travel, I find myself planing for travels more or less all the time. But it is an addiction I can bear, and it's a pleasent one, which lets one develop. I like going by bus or by train. I find them the best ways to really TRAVEL and to get acquainted to the landscape and customs in the area I come to. When I was young I went for many bus journeys in Europe, often being by far the youngest person on the bus. But nowadays there are the low-cost carriers to use, which I find a terrific way to get the chance to experience at least Europe very well. When in place, it's train, tram or bus for me.
On this page I'll write about journeys I've done, as well as journeys which are planned for the near future. Hopefully there might be some interesting or helping information I can give to you. |
| The statue of Lord Murugan and the 272 step stairs |
| | Every year since 1891 has the world famous Hindu festival Thaipusam been celebrated at the lime stone caves called Batu Caves, just north of Kuala Lumpur city. It is one of the most important religious festivals throughout the year, when the devotees show their gratitude for Lord Murugan and to what he has done to the believers and their prayers. |
| Statue at Plac Solidarnosc. |
| | From having been a stronghold as early as in year 980,Gdansk has more or less always played an important role in the history. Not far away can we still admire the magnificent castle of Malbork, which was the headquarter for the Order of the Teutonic Knights, who ruled a very vast territory from the beginning of the Middle Age and a couple of hundred years. But Gdansk also has a very important more recent history as it was the place where World War II started on September 1, 1939, when German troups attacked without any warning beforehand. And even more recently the Solidarity process, which led to the fall of the Iron Curtain, started here. |
| | Have you heard how Ljubljana got it's dragon Bridge? Well, acording to the legend, the Greek hero......For the rest of the story, see my Ljubljana page! |
| The oldest vine in the world. |
| | The worlds absoloutely oldest producing vine is to be found in Maribor. There are several evidences that it is more than 400 years old. Every year it gives from 35 to 55 kilos of grapes which gives circa 25 litres of red, nearly black wine. It is bottled on special 2 dl bottles designed for this wine, the Black Velvet (Zametna Crnina). |
| | My most recent pages are on Gdansk , Krakow and the gem HÄRKEBERGA: look at the marvelous paintings in this church!! Created in 1485...
Most recent updates are on Torun and Poznan.Right now I'm planing for a journey to Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Penang) and Melbourne in November, and another one in December to France, more precisely Amiens and Beauvais, both cities having great cathedrals to visit. Especially the cathedral in Amiens and the sound-and-light show is tempting to me. Please come back later to check out these pages! |
| | The picture I have choosen to symbolize myself is the province crest of my home province Närke (Naerke). It's quite an old crest stemming from 1560, one of the oldest in Sweden. One has not been able to explain the meaning of the crest, which consists of two uncommon arrows and four roses. We have also for a long time had the habbit of a province flower of every province (there are 24 of them) and the flower of Närke is the sweet Cowslip.
If you notice anything beeing wrong in the texts, please send me a note so I can adjust it. Thanks in advance. |
