Italian Sunset, in Bangor! - Bangor
Ristorante Pulcinella: Italian Sunset, in Bangor!

The Ristorante Pulcinella is a lovely little Italian restaurant in Bangor, situated in a beautiful location right next to the Pier, and offers spectacular sunset views. It is important that you reserve a table, even if it is just two of you, as this restaurant gets extremely busy. If you are ringing to book, make sure you ring in the evenings and if they don’t answer at first, keep trying, they will do! Also it might be worth asking for a table by the window to take advantage of the spectacular sunset.

The service is fast and you get extremely generous portions. The staff, most of whom are Italian, are very polite and helpful. The Restaurant is also authentically decorated, and gives you the feeling that you are in a little Italian fishing village, with fishing nets on the ceiling. I was particularly entertained by the Italian football memorabilia behind the bar; I thought this actually gave it a real feeling of authenticity, as well as a collection of Ferrari memorabilia.

Favorite Dish: I had the Antipasto Misto to start with, which was Parma Ham, Salami, Mozzarella Cheese, Olives and mixed Mushrooms, and my girlfriend had Minestrone, an Italian vegetable soup. For our main courses, I had Penna al Forno, pasta in a tomato sauce with salami and ham, baked with a mozzarella topping. My girlfriend had Tortellioni con Polpetta, which was pasta in a tomato sauce with meatballs, and again baked with a mozzarella topping. My girlfriend then had Profitter Rolls, which looked lovely, so lovely I didn’t eve get a look in, while I opted instead for a glass of Limoncello, a delicious Italian aperitif made from lemons, originating in Campania, which I had first tried on holiday in Sorrento.

All the food was lovely and worth the price. Most of the pasta dishes are in the £6 to £8 region, while chicken dishes are around £13 and Steaks are around £16. The steaks and chicken looked lovely and the portions were as generous as the pasta, and if you can afford it I think they would be well worth the money. The deserts were around £4 and the Limoncello was £2.50. I also had two Peroni’s, Italian Beers, which were lovelly, at £2.60 per bottle, a pretty standard price for restaurants

Probably the most student friendly place in Bangor - Bangor
Mike's Bites: Probably the most student friendly place in Bangor

Mike's Bites is a small cafe on Holyhead Road. It is flocked by students on their way to and from lectures for breafast, lunch and dinner. They have English Breakfasts of various sizes, from small, consisting of a slice of bacon, a hash brown, a fried egg, a sausage and beans, right up to the 'Greedy Ba***rd Challenge', which is a huge array of fried food along with a pint of tea, and if you complete it you get your name on the board! There are, of course, rules to the challenge. You must eat everything, you are not allowed to swap anything, and you are not allowed to go to the toilet during it!

Greek Delight! - Bangor
The Greek Taverna: Greek Delight!

The Greek Taverna, or 'The Greek' as it is coloquially known, is a resteraunt on College Road. It serves a selection of fine Greek Cuisine as well as some traditional English Dishes. Owned by a Greek Family who have been living in Bangor for some time, the resteraunt is a lovely place to visit. There is a covered courtyard in the middle of the resteraunt for those nice summer lunches, and an indoor dining area. The courtyard also has several small alcoves around it with seating.
The resteraunt is decorated with lots of Greek ornaments, and the courtyard has several greek columns, with one end made to look like a temple entrance.

Beware though, the waiter during the day sometimes takes a long time to come to you, so it may be best of to just go to the bar and order your food as soon as you have decided. However when you have ordered your food, if you sit in the courtyard you can see them preparing it all fresh in the kitchens.

Favorite Dish: Although not particularly Greek, I must say that the Paninis here are to die for!

The Jewel of Japan - Bangor
Noodle One: The Jewel of Japan

Noodle One is a Japanese noodle bar on High Street, Bangor. The food here is lovely, and the staff are also very friendly. While this is not the cheapest place in town, the quality and amount of the food more than make up for it! I can promise you that you will not leave here hungry!
The layout of the resteraunt is very authentic, with long wooden tables and long wooden Benches. Many of the noodle meals come with chopsticks and a wooden ladel, which isnt the most practical for our western ideas, but very authentic!

A Fantastic Resteraunt - Bangor
The Garden Hotel: A Fantastic Resteraunt

As well as a Hotel and Shop, the Garden Hotel is also a fantastic Chinese restaurant. It is located near the Train Station, which means it is a bit of a walk from the centre of town (ten minutes), and the prices are not the cheapest by far (set meal for two is £36), but the quality of the food, the friendliness of the staff and the atmosphere of the restaurant more than make up for it. The food was lovely and there was lots of it, and at the end we felt it was really value for money.
The Garden Hotel should definitely be on your list for either a nice, romantic meal with a loved one or a good meal with your friends.

The Garden also has a Take-Away service, and provides sofa's for you to sit on and wait for your food. You can also have a drink from the bar while you wait.

Favorite Dish: It was all delicious, but I must say the thing that really made a mark on me was the Crispy Seaweed, it was absolutely out of this world!

Address: 1 High Street

Directions: Opposite Bangor Train Station. From the town centre, go down High street to the very end, passing New Look, Varsity and Weatherspoons.

Nice Chinese - Bangor
Dragon: Nice Chinese

Dragon is a nice, small Chinese restaurant on College Road, Bangor. I could not say the food here is the best Chinese in Bangor, but it is certainly nice, and its location and price sure make up for anything lacking in the food. The staff here are also extremely friendly.
Dragon also does take-away food, and they have sofa's where you can sit and wait for it to be made.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone in Bangor.

Favorite Dish: My favourite meal to have in this restaurant would have to be Hot and Sour Soup, followed by Char Sui (Roast Pork) In Sezchuan sauce, with Banana Fritters in syrup for desert, with a nice Tzing Tao beer.

Yates: Nice place but wouldnt recommend the food

The Yates’s in Bangor is a nice place to pop in for a drink or two of an afternoon after a hard days shopping, or to stay for longer as a ‘first call’ before you go to the clubs at night. They have offers on food including ‘Two Meals for £5.95’ on selected dishes, ‘Burger and Drink for £4.75’, ‘Sunday Roast and drink for 5.45’ and ‘2 for 1 deserts’.

I have eaten here once for breakfast and a couple of times for dinner and found the food to be of a mediocre standard. The bacon in my breakfast was over-cooked, and on one occasion the Poppadoms accompanying my curry were very soft. My friends have also had worse experiences, including one having a dead fly in their meal, and when they complained the staff were very un-cooperative.

Personally I would recommend Yates’s Bangor as a place to go for some drinks, but nothing more.

Favorite Dish: It would be hard for me to recommend a main course as I have never had one that has had nothing wrong with it. The Chilli Con Carne was nice but when it came it was served with chips rather than the advertised Nacho’s, which was a bit weird, I would rather have had nothing on the side than chips. However for desert the Belgian Waffles with Banana and Chocolate Sauce were delicious.
