The city of Santiago has a large hill overlooking the city [Cerro San Cristobal]. On top of the hill is a statue of the Virgin Mary looking down on the city.

Mapucho river

The river Mapucho runs through the heart of the city. This photo was taken in the Providencia section of Santiago.

The river takes it's name from the Mapuche indians , local to Chile.

The capital Santiago with it's population of approximately 5 million people. I drove all over the city and found that the north side is where the more upscale reside and has much of the commercial life of the city. Those parts of the city are Providencia, Las Condes,and Alto Las Condes.

There are many fine restaurants in Santiago with a variety of foods to choose from the menu. Prices vary, from cheap to expensive...just like every where else in the world.

• Pros:Big city, fine climate, good food, nice people.
• Cons:Heavy traffic, lots of horn blowers-can't make left turns !!!
• In a nutshell:I still dream about Santiago....must improve my Spanish.
