"Hjørundfjord - the forgotten gem" Møre og Romsdal by foona

This fjord plunges into the land southwards just south of Aalesund. It can be reached from Aalesund by E-136 and E-39 to Ørsta, from Ørsta R-655 to Sæbø. Or from Hellsylt R-655 through Norangdal to Øye.
From the end of the 19th century this became a popular destination for the early tourists. Members of the European royal families, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Karen Blixen, Ibsen and Grieg all visited Hjørundfjord. The British mountaineer C.W. Patchell, returned to these mountains 40 times!
After WWII The Hjørundfjord as a tourist destination was forgotten for almost fifty years. Now there are an increasing number of visitors. And no wonder. The nature is as stunning as ever.
If you just want a peaceful stroll or a more challenging hike - you can do it here.

I'll have to send your link to Glo39 -- she collects boots!! Beautiful hotel. Would love to visit Norway.
This Hotel reminds me very much of the ""Prince of Wales Hotel" at Waterton Lakes in Alberta, Canada, it is beautiful! What an area, so pretty, thanks for sharing!
Wow, what an amazing place Pereide is, I wonder what happened to the people who lived there. Martin
Gee interesting tip on the flooded towns Foona. The pix on that web site are amazing! :o) Good stuff!! Cheers, Ann.
Enjoyed reading about this great part of the world. I actually think we were there once but didn't see the flooded houses. Looking forward to more pictures. I miss Norway!
