"Lopud. Car- and carefree" Lopud by foona

Lopud belong Elaphite islands and is located just outside Dubrovnik. With only 4.6 km2, Lopud is a very small island, and with only 200 residents, it's also a small community.

There are no cars on Lopud. No 'real' cars at least. There's a handful of golf-carts and small tractors.

It's a slow, tranquil place. Not the place to go, if night-life is a priority.

Lopud has a long and proud history.

One can still see proof of former wealth and power.

There's also 33 chapels, 4 churches and 2 monasteries. Most of them in ruins.

You can go for a swim in the middle of the village. The town-beach is clean and there's sun-beds and umbrellas for hire.

A brisk 20-30 min walk across the island, will take you to the wonderful, sandy beach at Sunj bay.

In the evening there's nothing better than watching the sunset from one of the restaurants in the village.
