If you happen to be in Dubai, Sharjah is a name that you'll have to hear at least once in a week. The third largest of the seven emirates that makes up the United Arab Emirates and covers around 2,600 square kilometers is the city called Sharjah. Sharjah boasts a rich and diverse heritage. From May to September the climate is hot with midday temperatures in July and August reaching in excess of 45°C. Rainfall and tropical storms are expected during January, February and March. Sharjah is now one of the most rapidly developing emirates of the U.A.E. in the cultural capital of the Arab World. The presence of local and foreign banks, quality communication systems and other essential modernized services has added to the continuous positive trends in the business climate in Sharjah. The currency is called AED (Dirhams).

There are many elegant Mosques in Sharjah. Sharjah is the only Emirate in which the sale, possession and consumption of alcohol is banned. Only if you have an personal alcohol license, you may bring in alcohol from other emirates and consume it inside your home. A cannon is fired to sound the end of the Ramadan fast before the Azaan (call for prayer) for Maghrib prayer at Al Noor Mosque in Sharjah. Their are Seventeen Museums in Sharjah. The Emirate of Sharjah is also known to be the Cultural Capital of the UAE.
