Guided tour of Halifax

Another trip to Halifax ( my 3rd) on Aug 14th, 2004 with senior's Group 7 day bus tour of Nova Scotia.
We visited Cape Breton and the Cabot trail as well.
Pictures on the place name pages.

On our tour of the city we visited the beautiful floral park with all the flowers in bloom but we had showers and fog as well so some pictures are affected.

TRIP TO HALIFAX JUNE 2001 see (pictures best viewed full size). Most pictures under "OFF THE BEATEN PATH"

Left Louisbourg on Cape Breton Island on June 22nd, 2000 in the rain at 12.30 pm. and drove along the north shore of lake Bras D'Or to the Canso Causeway and crossed it into Nova Scotia again. we stopped at Rita's Tea House for biscuits and tea at 1.45 pm. Very Nice restaurant belonging to Rita MacIntyre ( A famous Nova Scotia singer and composer) all her trophies etc are on display and they have a great gift shop as well.

We took the scenic route 7 ( as shown on our trip tick by CAA or AAA in the rain and FOG. There was nothing to see only fog over the Ocean and since it was already after 4pm we searched for a motel and finally found one ( Motel Marquis of Dufferin (at port Dufferin) . It was cold and we had to put on the heat in the room. It did not work. They changed our room so finally we settled down for the night.

June 23rd left at 9am for Halifax in the fog again. It soon burnt off and we arrived via the Murray Mackay Bridge in HALIFAX (75 cent toll) and took a room at the DELTA Hotel. It was an excellent choice and we stayed there for 3 nights. There is also a Sheraton near the waterfront.

We were a short walk from the harbor front and board walk via inside cross walks never having to cross streets but always above them in airconditioned, glassed in walkways. There were also escalators or elevators to go up or down. No trouble for handicapped or seniors. I expected to see lots of old buildings but to my surprise they were all new modern bldgs. The old ones had been modernized inside only the facade was saved. Some were built on cement pillars in the water.there is a brand new Casino on the water front also. The board walk was all new and fresh and clean. There were many docks with beautiful ships and yachts. The Concordia Sail Boat had just arrived from a trip around the world with female students. They study on board as they travel from port to port and act as crew. What an adventure for 17 and 18 year old girls. They all looked so healthy and happy that it did your heart good to see them on deck waiting for custom clearance to disembark and hug their Friends and family who were waiting for them.

We also saw several big private Yachts the size of which I never thought existed. One from "BELIZE named THE LADY M." had everyone gaping. and taking photos.Wonder who owns her?

We spent a lot of time on the board walk enjoying every minute of it. We also took a bus tour of the City seeing all the interesting sites. A MUST DO. We also went on a minibus trip to Peggy"s Cove.
