  • Favorite Thing: Montreal is the second largest Francophone City in the world. (As of Jan. 1st 2002 the Island of Montreal became one MEGA-CITY with a new Mayor (Gérald TREMBLAY) elections were held on Nov. 4th, 2001). "ONE ISLAND ONE CITY".Only Paris France is bigger. It is also among the biggest cities in Canada. On Jan.1st 2002, all the small towns that comprised the suburbs became a part of MONTREAL as The Provincial Government forced FUSION for Economic reasons. We have ONE CITY on the ISLAND with 28 Burroughs. I lived and worked in Montreal for years.(I now live (retired) about 45 miles NORTH EAST OF Montreal.) Visit all of 'The Old Port of Montreal'(Le Vieux-Port)this superb historic site stretches over 2 kilometers delivering hour after hour of magic. The whole area is extraordinary. The waterfront and amusement park ( roller skate and bicycle rental ) 'Pointe-a-Calliere' the Montreal museum of Archeology and History),Imax theater with it's giant screen,Street performers and musicians, shows, guided tours, games etc.. The Casino on the old EXPO 67 site ,also La Ronde amusement park, The Botanical gardens in the Parc Jean Drapeau (FORMER MAIRE) on Sherbrooke St. Gardens of flowers and trees etc. from all over the world open winter and summer, The Olympic Stadium ( Big O ) where the Expo baseball team play . The Canadians hockey team (in winter) at the New Molson Center where all the big music stars come to put on their shows ( has many bars and restaurants inside as well ) THIS WILL SOON BE KNOWN AS ' THE BELL CENTER'. St. Catherine St, a must walk down for restaurants and shopping. The 'Place Des Arts' for shows etc. St. Dennis St. for the outside restaurants.A ride around the harbor on the tour boat. Visit the huge Parks.walking paths and lookouts on Mount Royal where you can see the whole city at your feet. The summit is 229 meters above sea level .

Fondest Memory: Take a tour bus for the best visit of all the interesting sites. Visit The Notre-Dame Cathedral. This is a must see.Maurice Richard's (our greatest hockey player)funeral ceremony was held their . The St. Joseph's Oratory (Where Brother Andre is noted for miracles performed in his name) on the mountain side must not be missed. In the winter skiing on Mount Royal in the heart of the City or go north to Mount Tremblant via the Autoroute Des Laurentides, 50 miles for the greatest skiing in North America.

Fondest Memory: Visiting Beaver Lake on the top of Mount Royal seen in the picture. In the heart of Montreal we have a National Park which comprises the whole top of the mountain. This PARK will celebrate 125 years of existence this year. It was designed by the same architect that designed CENTRAL PARK IN NEW YORK CITY.
