JEROME ARIZONA

MILLION dOLLAR VIEW (BILLION DOLLAR MINE)

JEROME
The mine is shut down. The Mountain is honeycombed with tunnels. Mining started in 1876 ( gold, silver then copper.) The town once had a population of 15,000 people, in tents and shacks. The last ore was removed in 1953. A mass exodus took place over the following few years. Some hardy souls stayed on and formed the "Jerome Historical Society". They kept vandals away and salvagers and preserved the Town.It is Now A National Historic Site thanks to the dedicated work of these people. Very Clean with many gift shops, articles made there by artists and artisians and craft people. (They inhabit the town). The view from the town is spectacular. On the main street is the Jerome State Historic Park or the Mine museum.
A place favored with the most magnificent scenery in the world, invigorating climate and sparkling air.( Once the most talked about mining camp in America a roaring violent town, the wickedest city in America.)
Located on highway 89A bewtween Flagstaff and Prescott in the Verde Valley.Just a short drive off Interstate 17, halfway between Phoenix and the Grand Canyon. Open to cars etc. 365 days a year. Altitude 5,000 feet. MUST SEE. Tour buses to GRAND CANYON VISIT HERE USUALLY.

View from the town.

This town was saved by a few hardy folks who did not want it to die after they shut down the mine. It is now populated by artists and artisiens who have shope and sell their wares.

WATER IN ARIZONA NEAR JEROME A rare site as there is a lot of desert in the southern part of Arizona. They have to irrigate to grow things in a lot of places. There is a lot of water down about 50 feet in places. A type of tree grows that the Indians used as a guide to find water. Where it is growing water was not far down
