Cruise on the Jaques Cartier

by Simonneeddy - last update: May 25, 2008

Cruise on The St. Lawrence River from Brockville

Simonne and Jaques Cartier Cruise boat
We left from Joliette by bus at 8.30 am. We had dinner at Brockville at the Swiss Chalet then boarded the Jaques Cartier at 12.30pm.We spent the day aboard with 3 bus loads of seniors from Joliette P.Q. and other areas.
Brockville from the cruise boat

Town Hall in center with bell tower.

Prescott International Bridge to U.S.A.

Prescott International Bridge
Lock at Iroquois ont.

IROQUOIS CANAL LOCK

We went straight through as the water level of the river was the same below the locks and above due to spring melt of snow.

Water level control dam at Iroquois

In summer the level of the river is low above the dam so it is closed to raise the level so ships can navigate to the Great Lakes. This raises the water level west of the dam and the water level below the dam is lower Level therefor the need for the lock
Level is controlled by the number of gates open or partially closed.

Musician

Music and dancing aboard on 2nd deck

Seniors were dancing the LINE dances

The only ship we met

It was carrying parts for wind mills made in Canada to make electricity in U.S.A.
